Do it messy

Hi there, Reader!

I moved to a new apartment again last weekend. 5th move in 4 years.

  1. 2021 Nov: The Big Purge: Sold my house in Indiana and moved into a tiny house in the Rockies near Victor, CO
  2. 2021 Dec: From tiny house to a Colorado Springs apartment
  3. 2023 Mar: Colorado Springs to Manitou Springs
  4. 2024 Mar: Across the hall into a slightly larger apartment
  5. 2025 May: Manitou to Colorado Springs again

This 5th move may have been the most disorganized, messy move I have ever made.

I didn’t realize how much stuff I had accumulated in the 3.5 years. And, the apartment was so small that I didn’t have enough floor space to put packed boxes. On move-day, I still hadn’t tackled the kitchen. People who had promised to help with the move canceled at the last minute. The U-Haul truck I rented was too small for all my things & sound healing instruments.

As a result, what happened?

I got moved. Everything was fine. No big drama. I let it be messy. We did the best we could.

I know, a let-down climax of the story.

Sometimes we just need to let it be messy.

If I had waited until all my boxes were packed and had all the helpers lined up, I might still be in my old apartment. Hahaha.

This concept of ‘let it be messy’ is heard often in entrepreneurship. Letting go of perfectionism when launching the website, a new program, a one-off event is one of the KEYs to moving forward in your business.

I remember when I was teaching high school and the journalism teacher had posters of sayings on the door to his classroom. One sticks out to me still today, especially this week: “Good Enough is Not Good or Enough”. OH, no, no, no. Good Enough IS Absolutely Good and Enough.

Pushing perfectionism will keep you standing in place, never sending out email, never posting on social media, never telling people about your events or programs…

Allowing yourself grace to figure it out as you go, adjusting for bumps in the road will ultimately be your safe, creative space for growing your business. This allowance for letting it be messy is where we grow, learn, and create something even better than we had originally imagined.

So, get out there! And Let it be Messy!

What are you not posting or not telling people about because it isn’t perfectly created yet?
